La questione del peccato originale nel De praedestinatione liber di Giovanni Scoto Eriugena
Abstract
This paper describes the problem of original sin in the thought of John Sco-tus Eriugena, with particular reference to the anthropology of sin outlined in De praedestinatione liber. In the first chapter, the problem of original sin is introduced starting from the major work of the author, the Periphyseon, which serves as a connection with the dominant theme of the De praedesti-natione liber, which occupies, instead, the second section. These two texts allow to frame in a more systematic way the approach of John Eriugena to the problem of sin, both from a cosmological and an anthropological point of view. The last chapter aims to outline the doctrinal implication of an Ori-genist reading of Eriugenian escathology, especially before the Augustinian tradition of evil within which Eriugena partially sets himself.
